The One Pair of Sandals You NEED This Spring!

Sandal Header

No matter where I look, I’m seeing such great spring/summer footwear options!  I wish:

1) My shopping budget was bigger.

2) I actually had places to wear these beautiful shoes because I could really go to town.

Of all of the sandal mayhem in stores now, there is one style that I’m seeing repeated both in editorial styling, as well as street style. No, don’t worry, it’s not THESE.  I still hold strong to my opinion that they’re straight-up ugly.  It’s the two-piece sandal.  The combination of minimalism, sophistication and comfort make these a winner. In flat version, or heeled you really can’t go wrong.

Here are some of my favorites available in stores now:

Two-Piece Sandal

Low-Heel (from left to right):  Vince / J.Crew / Gap / ASOS

Mid- Heel (from left to right):  ASOS  / Sole Society /J.Crew / Topshop

High-Heel (from left to right): Vince CamutoJeffrey Campbell / Zara   / Steve Madden

Indulge your feet in a relaxing pedicure and you’ll be ready to go.  Simple, easy and clean.  Just how every Spring season should feel.

How are YOU freshening up your shoe collection this season?

Fall Edit – Top Trends of Fall 2013

This past summer has to go down in the books as one of the mildest.  Aside from a brief 1-week heat wave and a 2-week soaker, the temps have been on the more moderate and comfortable side.  There is nothing better than being able to sleep with the windows open on a cool summer night.  My AC bill thanks you, Mother Nature.

While I love some summer warmth on my generally pasty white skin, I’m definitely on Team Fall.  The crisp air, the return of football, new back-to-school supplies, and the general feeling of a fresh start just make me a happy person.  In all honestly, the 500+ page September issues of my favorite fashion and home design magazines are also an added bonus!  Based on my in-depth research (hey, a girl needs some good beach reads!) I’ve compiled what I believe are the top 10 trends for Fall 2013.  My back-to-school gift to you!

Fall 2013 Top Trends

1) Blue & Black

(Diane Von Furstenberg Geometric Knit Print Flare Dress)
In the past, I’ve been wary of pairing these two colors together, but when done right, it just looks so sophisticated and is a nice update to the very black & white monochromatic trend from this past summer.

2) Animal Print

(Topshop knit top )
ROAR!  You all know my love for a good animal print- it’s a neutral, remember?!  Fall lines are full of the leopard spots and zebra stripes in contrasting neutral colors.

3) Midi Skirts

(Zara blue chambray skirt / TIBI box pleat skirt)
Not quite a maxi, definitely not a mini- what you have here is a midi.  In my opinion, there is no better way to show off your killer curves and a great pair of heels.

4) The Menswear Flat

(Nine West leopard shoes /  Pierre Darré studded flat)
This ode-to-tomboy trend is still going strong with assorted loafers, slippers and oxfords (a staple for us here at The Heart’s Delight) that are as easy on the eye as they are on the feet!

5) Moto-Mania

(Madewell black leather jacket / Forever 21 (sold out online) faux-leather moto jacket)
Trans-seasonal and classic, a well constructed motorcycle jacket can kick any outfit up a notch and win you some serious street cred simultaneously.

6) Slouchy Jeans

(Current/Elliott boyfriend jeans / Zara destroyed jeans)
A continuation of the tomboy theme, and a forgiving style when you’ve had a few too many… (insert vice here).

7) Tall Boots/Low Booties

(Rag & Bone leather stack heel boots /  Vince Camuto  knee high boots)
What fall trend list is complete without a mention of the boot?  In this case, the high riding style boot and it’s cousin, the low stacked heel bootie are in the spotlight.

8) Military Green

(Top Shop silk camo dress)
There is definitely a green coup of sorts when it comes to Fall’s new arrivals.  From classic military inspired looks, to Pantone’s Color of the Year- emerald green, the hue is having it’s “moment.”

9) Updated Sweatshirt

(J.Crew embellished short sleeve crew / Vanessa Bruno Athé crew neck sweatshirt)
This isn’t your old oversized college sweatshirt we’re talking about.  This iteration of the sweatshirt is way too cool to simply lounge in on the weekends.

10) Cross-Body Bags

(Coach Legacy Mini Tanner Brown Leather Satchel)
Any woman’s (or man’s) best friend.  A perfect example of form and function colliding in the very best way possible.

What are YOUR top trends for the coming season?

Style Chameleon- The White Button Down

It’s Monday morning at “The Heart’s Delight University.”  My name is Stella, and I’ll be your instructor today.  The topic of the day is a rather mundane one- the white button down.  But don’t let that fool you!  Today’s “Style Chameleon” lesson will make something I’m sure all of you have in your closet, into something new and exciting.  Now, let’s begin!

Our subject matter- the ubiquitous white button down shirt:

Stretch perfect shirt

Everyone owns one of these… it’s time to put it to work.

For LOOK #1, our white shirt functions as an extra layer of coverage over a basic tank.  Whether you need protection from sun, summer AC blasts, or just want a bit more modesty, leave the shirt open, roll up the sleeves and you’re ready to go!

White Shirt- Playground Momma
1) J.Crew top
2) J.Crew cami top
3) Ray-Ban green sunglasses
5) Merona Flat pump shoes
7) Toy Watch green jewelry
LOOK #2 gives a standard cotton maxi dress a little bit more interest.  In this case, I recommend tying the bottom of the shirt at the waist for a little more definition for any body type.  Again, roll up those sleeves for a casual, cool look.
White Shirt- Lady Who Lunches
1)  J.Crew j crew shirt
2)  BaubleBar nautical jewelry
3) Tory Burch leather shoulder bag
4) Vince Camuto shoes
5) Michael Stars dress
Lastly, LOOK #3 lets the white shirt stand on it own and helps focus attention to where it really matters- YOU (and that fabulous party skirt).  Pop that collar up, unbutton the top few buttons and let the shirt frame your smokey eyed makeup look.
White Shirt - Hot Momma
1)  J.Crew j crew shirt
2)  BaubleBar opal jewelery
3) L.K.Bennett vintage sandals
4) Milly skirt
5) Chanel matte eye shadow
So class, as you can see, that white shirt in your closet can take you from day-to-night with little effort and a few accessories.  Not so mundane anymore, huh?
Any questions?!
